Welcome to the Mazyck-Wraggborough Garden District!
Message from the association president...
Thank you for your confidence in electing the slate of board officers last week.
Thank you to Vangie for her 23 years of devotion to our neighborhood. Our reputation and current status is a testament to her hard work, a passion that became a labor of love. I’m glad that Vangie will stay involved as our Chair of Parks & Gardens Committee.
Thank you to the most recent officers and those volunteers who have provided service in the past. Everyone’s efforts have contributed to this moment.
As you may know, the officers elected are:
Ferris Kaplan, President
Erin Witty, Vice President
Billy Goodale, Treasurer
Sharon Bruner, Membership
Cameron Elliott, Secretary
We are nearly 300 homes & businesses in the Mazyck-Wraggborough Neighborhood Association district, informally known as The Garden District. Our boundaries are East Bay to King, and Mary to Calhoun.
With an all-new board, we are taking the perspective of listening, learning, and leading. As president, and with the support of the board, I see that our driving strategies should be:
Organization—Communication—Participation—Livability
Why? We need to professionally and consistently provide a structure of meetings and information for you. We must communicate news to you, and provide a source for you to give feedback.
To me, the items above are sequential, and each will take a lot of work to progress to the next. The key is PARTICIPATION. Without it, the five of us cannot provide the level of service you deserve. Help us to help you. Let me know about your interests and expertise. Just a few hours a month from a dozen or more residents will garner huge improvements for all.
LIVABILITY is “what’s in it” for everyone. Can we stop hotels from being built? Doubt it. But, we can be activists to make our voices heard. We all want decent, better [or at least not worse] conditions, and to try to “Live & Let Live.” A real sense of community among residents will make this a more livable residential neighborhood.
There’s strength in numbers. We must get current members to renew, get lapsed members to come back, and get prospective members to join. We can do this by demonstrating value of membership and communicating achievements.
I can hear you asking, “What can I do?” Well, here’s what you can please do:
1) Email at info@charlestongardendistrict.org to confirm your name(s), email, address, and phone. Can also UNSUBSCRIBE at bottom of this email.
2) Pay your annual dues at charlestongardendistrict.org/join-us $30 per person OR $50 per couple/household or (non-voting) business. All memberships valid January through December, regardless of when paid.
3) Talk to neighbors about becoming members, have them check the website charlestongardendistrict.org, and getting them to attend meetings.
4) Let me know if you want to be on a specific committee (TBD) or just help in general. Your experience will make us better.
Next meetings: Enjoy your summer! For the rest of this year, we expect to meet in person on the last Tuesday of September (28) from 6:30-7:30pm, and on the last Tuesday of October (26) & November (30). Location to be determined.
Again, thank you for your support and patience as we ramp up this new management.
