Sam Duncan is the Neighborhood Relations Coordinator for the College of Charleston. He encourages residents to report students’ disruptive parties, noise, whatever, to the POLICE, first. Then, can also file an anonymous complaint with the school; and then can also email and/or call Sam at SRDUNCAN@COFC.EDU cell: 843-709-6155. He said the administration is dedicated to taking preemptive and reactive actions with students. You can also file a Noise Complaint with the city.
Want to Complain About Dog Owners?
Complaints to Animal Control need to be filed through Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch so they are properly logged and tracked. Call 843-743-7200.
Garbage Collection and Recycling Collection
Regular pickup for The Garden District is:
Every Monday - Green garbage bins, yard clippings, oversized items.
Every Other Wednesday - Blue recycling bins, cardboard, broken-down boxes.
The City asks that bins not be put out sooner than 6pm the night before; and brought in by 6pm on the day collected.
Garbage and trash collection is handled by the City’s Environmental Services Division. You may contact them at 843-724-7311 with questions or concerns about residential or commercial garbage and trash collection. Recycling is handled by Charleston County 843-720-7111. Check both for holiday schedules.
Street Sweeping
Though not posted and cars don't have to be moved, the City does send a large sweeping machine through The Garden District on the THIRD Thursday & Friday of each month. It's usually in the early morning and may not include every street in our district every time.
Composting
Residents can recycle food scraps for free at participating drop sites, including Corinne Jones Park (in Wagener Terrace) on the peninsula. The food scraps are then sent to the Bees Ferry Compost Facility, instead of the landfill, to be recycled into compost.
Parking
Parking Enforcement site is being redesigned, but you can report an issue to The Parking Dispatcher at 843-579-6099 +0. Emergencies during late hours, Sundays, and holidays will be handled by Law Enforcement.
Reporting Streetlight Outages
Click on this link: Street Light Repair (dominionenergysc.com)
You can select the pole # or enter an address and select the pole # with the light failure close to the address selected. It then enters an order in the outage system and sends it to the appropriate truck, normally the next day.
