The Charleston Garden District, also called the Garden District Neighborhood Association (some maps refer to us as Mazyck-Wraggborough) is known for its beautiful parks and gardens. The association was formed in 1982 to actively encourage neighborliness and a greater sense of community among its residents; to facilitate meaningful communication among residents, city government, city agencies, elected officials, churches and businesses; and to provide an officially-recognized ongoing source for residents to review, comment, and act on neighborhood matters.
There are about 400 neighborhoods in Charleston, with 110 in the Neighborhood Council (meaning they applied to the Neighborhood Commission for standing), and about 20 on the peninsula. Our district represents more than 300 houses and businesses. We belong to the Peninsula Neighborhood Consortium, a group of 14 neighborhood associations in Charleston, representing 35,000 residents.
Within our district, there are six city parks: Marion Square; Tiedemann Park; Wragg Mall; Wragg Square; Vangie Rainsford Park; and the Susie Jackson Freedom Memorial Park.
An additional garden is planned: The Emanuel Nine Memorial and Survivors' Garden to honor victims and survivors of the 2015 Mother Emanuel AME Church shooting.
Our compelling vision is to become Charleston's Most Beautiful Neighborhood as defined by A Safe Neighborhood, A Clean Neighborhood, A Friendly Neighborhood, and A Engaged Neighborhood. We welcome our residents active involvement in making this vision a reality.

DownloadPoint2 is a service for real estate agents. All the data in the demographics section are sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau (American Community Survey, 5-year estimates). These numbers are from 2020 and are updated each time the Census Bureau releases new data.
There is much about their methodology that we don't know, including exactly what area they identified as Charleston's Garden District. Rental units and student renters certainly skew various categories. Some stats seem plausible, while others, may not be accurate...but all we got.

The Union Pier is only a few minutes from Charleston's Garden District and its redevelopment will greatly impact us, especially the increased density, traffic, and noise. The 70-acre waterfront site, between Market & Laurens Streets, is being considered as a port-of-calls, and include retail, event spaces, and park areas. Our Union Pier Committee will represent the Garden District’s best interests in providing input.
